Metal Cleaning / Preparation

Different phosphates can find uses as alkali sources and degreasing agents or as acid descaling/derusting solutions. It is important to remove all traces of grease, oil, rust and scale from the metal surface before phosphating. After cleaning, the phosphating process must be applied immediately, otherwise surface rusting will rapidly take place. Phosphating of ferrous metals involves the formation of a strongly adherent iron phosphate film over the surface of the metal. This forms an ideal pre-coat, preventing corrosion of the cleaned metal surface prior to application of other surface coatings.
