- Fluoride source: SMFP is a safe, effective source of fluoride in toothpastes. It has the advantage of being compatible with all regularly used toothpaste abrasives.
- Ant-tartar agent: Pyrophosphates are widely used as anti-tartar agents in tootpastes due to their ability to sequester calcium.
- Whitening formulations: STPP can be used as a stain removing agent in whitening toothpaste formulations.
- pH control: MSP and DSP can be used as buffers. TSP and TSPP find use as pH modifiers.
- Denture cleaning: TSP and STPP are used as stabilisers for per-oxy salts and sources of alkalinity for cleaning.
