| Description | : | Phosphorus trichloride is produced from high-purity white phosphorus and chlorine, giving a very pure product. It can be reacted with organic compounds to organophosporus compounds with a trivalent P atom, such as phosphites and phosphonates. It is also an access route to organic phosphines. Important application fields of these are crop protection agents, plasticizers, antiscale and chelating agents, and flame retardants. Phosphorus trichloride is also a chlorination agent and a precursor for phosphorus pentachloride, phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorous acid. |
